Late to the party

I can't be the only one struggling to work in this heat. Managed to write a little under 3000 words on Monday, was in hospital all day yesterday and have chiseled out another 2000 words today, but I've had to earn every single one of them. I really hope this is the last heatwave of the summer because I'm desperate to get on with my writing, yet am really struggling. Still, on the positive side that's still 5000 words or so added and takes me just over the halfway point in the first draft. I don't know about other writers but I always find the 30,000 to 50,000 word point of any first draft, the hardest part - you keep adding words but that word total creeps along at a snail's pace.

I'm late to the party I know, but what a wonderfully informative and entertaining programme "Digging for Britain" is, and so much of it is about the Romans. I only stumbled across it after watching another series by the presenter Dr Alice Roberts, which was about Britain's most historic towns. Having recently visited and stayed in York, Norwich and somewhere else which escapes me for the moment, I was interested to learn something of their history through her programme. It was only after searching about Dr Roberts that I discovered this Digging for Britain programme and now I'm hooked. Some binge watching coming up for me I think. Absolutely fascinating what they have unearthed.

Fortress of steel is doing brilliant and I'm absolutely delighted with how its been received and am genuinely touched and grateful to everyone who has bought a copy. Don't forget that book 2 in the series - "Forests of death" - is now available for pre-order.
